RWBY Season One Review and Rant

Now that Season 1 of RWBY has concluded, I decided to sum up my thoughts on it.

It is.....okay. Not great, just....okay.

Don't get me wrong, the fights are awesome, the animation is great and I like the voices and it has great humor. At least for the first 10 episodes. Episode 8 was amazing and is the highlight of the entire series. The monsters, the fights, the humor and the teamwork are all great. And 9 and 10 got some good laughs and an awesome Weiss fight and good character development for her and Ruby.

And then came the Four Episode Long Cardin arc. Oh God...the cardin arc. Let me put it this way, that arc, is the knife in this series's back, the albatross around it's neck, the mongoose to it's snake...all that crap. Why? Simple. Because Cardin is, to be frank, an utterly pointless character. He beats up on Jaune. Whoopdy friggin doo! Except this required turning Jaune, the guy who had the balls to go at it with a GIANT Scorpion with just a small shield and sword, and the guy who came up with the plan to beat it in the first place, and who jumped to the aid of his friends against it, into a total wimp for no real reason. And at the conclusion of the arc, what happens? Oh yeah, Jaune beats up another giant monster all on his own, therefore confirming......exactly what we already knew. Soooooo......why not just have Jaune bitchslap Cardin and save us the sheer pointlesness of it all? He's clearly tougher than Cardin going by the boss fights he's been in so there's no reason for him to be having trouble.

And speaking of Cardin.....he is a pointless character. Aside from what I mentioned above, he has ZERO personality besides asshole. He's an asshole to Jaune and a racist asshole to a little rabbit girl less than half his size. That's it.

And another thing! The guy blatantly pulls shit like luanching Jaune away from the school into the forest in a locker...RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE TEACHER AND NOTHING HAPPENS! I'm sorry, but I'm calling bullshit on that. There is no fucking way that Glinda could have missed that happening and Cardin should have been either kicked out or at the very least gotten his ass whipped up and down the school by her.
BUT NOPE! NOTHING! And we are subjected with four episodes of this stupidity.
He's the Mark James of RWBY.

THANKFULLY, episodes 15 and 16 bring back the characterization with some very nice revelations about Blake and Weiss and the Faunus and White Fang as a whole, plus a cool fight at the end of 16.

The problem I have with this is, it felt crammed in at the end there. The idea of Roman Torchwick attacking the school with an army of men and battleships had a lot of potential. Instead, Robot Girl from out of nowhere pops up and casually pwns everything.

Here's what SHOULD have gone down.

Jaunedice: Part 1, Cardin is bullying Jaune. Part 2, Jaune kicks Cardin's ass. Boom. Done and done in two episodes.

Blake and Weiss's argument: Two episodes, that was very nicely paced and at the end, Roman's forces arrive.

Torchwick Parts 1 and 2: The students and teachers of Beacon fighting it out with Roman, his henchmen and their attack ships in a two part epic battle that ends with Roman escaping.

THAT would have been a major improvement instead of boring us with four episodes of bully filler. It just brought down the series as a whole and made it all seriously drag.

On Dollman vs Demonic Toys

You know, thinking back on it, the toys were idiots in this movie. Now, in the first movie, the demonic toys were pretty cool. They were stealthy and brutal and killed a lot of the cast. Hell, Oopsy's response to a flamethrower hitting him was to talk smack and come back five seconds later and kill a girl. Their kill of the Security Guard was utterly brutal and you also had The Master pulling mind screws all over the place and those gas mask bicycle girls. Yeah they were weird.

And then came Dollman vs Demonic Toys.

The movie starts with a random bum falling over, hitting his head and dying and his blood brings back the toys. They troll Judith, get away from her and hire the midget security guard to bring victims in for them to kill to make them and their Master stronger.

Meanwhile, Judith goes and finds Brick Bardo (Dollman) to ask for his help. Nurse Ginger (Bad Channels) comes along to help.

So they go to the warehouse, there are firefights and the Robot Toy kills Judith and Brick kills it. Now granted, I would have preferred a longer shootout, but it's all good. As Dollman established, Brick's gun has crazy firepower. So after more fighting and chase scenes, Oopsy gets the jump on Bardo in the vents and Oopsy just owns him. He punches Brick and sends him flying out of the air vent. Brick falls to the ground and lands next to a tied up Ginger. Just as Brick is getting up, Oopsy jumps down and smacks him again and KO's Brick.
And no, Brick is not just down for a few seconds, I mean he is OUT. How out of it is he you ask?

By the time Brick wakes up, he and Judith are now in the middle of the warehouse, Brick has strings wrapped around his hands and feet, the strings are attached to remote controlled cars, Oopsy found the remote for both of them, Ginger is tied up with ribbons to an alarm clock, Oopsy has a record player all set up to play and has found a Ginger sized nighty to put on her later. I also see scissors, which means they had time to go find scissors to cut strings and ribbons as well. Oh yeah, and they had time to hide Brick's gun in a different section of the warehouse.
Brick wakes up and instead of just killing him in any one of dozens of ways they had available to them now...Oopsy monologues...and monologues and monologues: Giving the backstory of their Master and the story of the first Demonic Toys AND gives his evil plan (Rape Ginger so that their Master can reborn inside her and burst out as a full grown demon) ...all the while, Ginger is very obviously untying herself and they still don't stop her. Oopsy only puts the cars into full speed when Ginger is already free and saves Brick.

Soooo.....why not just KILL BRICK? I mean, he was not needed for their plan and they had won the battle the moment they knocked him out. Instead of wasting time with all of the above, Oopsy could have just snapped Brick's neck. Ginger was pretty dang tied up, so she wouldn't be able to do anything. Then the toys could have just hung out until midnight and proceeded with the evil plan.

Instead...they go Bond Villain on us. After Brick escapes, they send Zombitoid (The Action Figure looking dude) after Brick. Brick fends him off with a mini hockey stick he picks up for a moment before Zombitoid just...walks into an electric socket. Brick doesn't even knock him into it or trick him, Zombitoid just walks right into it.
Brick proceeds to blow away Jack-Attack after finding his gun. Which, by the way, also still has all of it's bullets in it.

Then he tracks down Oopsy and after providing a distraction, Ginger kicks Oopsy in the balls and Brick blows him away.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's for the best that they won. Ginger is a good woman, nobody wants that to happen to her...but the whole thing shouldn't have just been handed to the heroes as blatantly as it was.
That's all I'm saying.

Rant On Tsunderes

First off, what is a tsundere? Well, you see my rant on the Jerk Jock trope? Tsundere's are basically the female version of that. But tsundere's are worse. The Jocks are at least honest about the fact that they are complete assholes. Tsundere's? Tsundere's are manipulative monsters. They pretend to love you, act nice, spend time with you...and the moment you get out of line, *POW!* They punch you in the face and start attacking you for every little thing. But when they calm down oh they are soooo sorry, they love you, they'll never do it again, blah blah blah blah. And the cycle continues. That's right. Tsunderes are domestic abusers. But unlike the male versions, they are NEVER called out on it. In fact, no matter what happens, the man is ALWAYS treated by the characters as the villain all while the tsundere bitch is getting her ass kissed. It is fucking disgusting and don't give me any of that double standard bullshit. I'm calling tsundere's what they are: CUNTS!
Yes I said the C word, big whoop.

Let's take a look at a textbook tsundere whore, shall we?
Zero Louise from Familiar of Zero: She 'accidentally' kidnaps an innocent kid from another dimension, 'accidentally' kisses him, which 'accidentally' makes him forget his ENTIRE PAST LIFE and then proceeds to 'accidentally' treat him like utter shit and make him her slave who she repeatedly abuses, whips, beats, starves, blasts with her magic and puts a collar on him that allows her to electrocute him at will and treats him like a dog all for her own fucking sick laughs. Oh yeah and that magic kiss she gave him? IT KEEPS HIM FROM GETTING MAD AT HER! That's right, Saito can't even call her out on her bullshit. Not that it matters because nobody else ever does. And of course people will defend this cunt because 'Oh she's a girl so it's okay. Oh she's a noble so it's okay, blah blah blah.' Fuck that and fuck Louise. Let me ask you this, if Zero Louise was a male and Saito a female, would you still defend him? No, you'd be screaming for his head, so don't give me that bullshit.
'Oh her classmates were mean, she's a female Naruto!'

Do not, don't you dare, EVER put that monster in the same category as Naruto Uzumaki.

And of course, her defenders always try to bring this one out of their asses: 'Oh he tried to attack her in her sleep' and hope that you don't know the truth. But guess what? That was 1)Complete horseshit and 2) Not Saito's fault. The Gandalfr runes on his body took him over and were forcing him to assault her to give him some bullshit attachment to that world. So yeah, nice try Louise fans but that won't work either.

I'll say this now: Louise is nothing but a whiny, pathetic, bitch and if she wasn't protected by double standards, Saito would have stabbed her in her sleep after the first episode.

There are more, such as Naru Narusegawa and Kirie from Girls Bravo, but it's just more double standard domestic abuse crap.
See Louise.

Now, I'm not saying that anime women shouldn't be tough, I like that, but there is a big difference between being a badass and being a Jerk Suie.

Let's take a look at Miss Revy for instance. From what we know, Revy had a downright horrible childhood, has lived a life of crime, associates with criminals and lives in a wretched hive of scum and villainy, so her having a bad attitude makes sense. She will cop an attidue with pretty much everyone but there is a major difference here: Characters can and will call her out on it. During the Nazi arc, Dutch snapped her out of her Whitman Fever Psychosis and called her out on her attitude. Later, Rock did the same in a truly awesome moment.

Balls of adamantium this one.

It's not just the guys either. One of Eda's favorite past times is trolling Revy after all.

Also, Revy is a surprisingly sympathetic character, as revealed more and more as the series goes on.

This is how you write a character like this! You show them as badass and tough and rude but characters will call them out on their behavior when they cross the line, that way everybody is happy.

Regarding Broly and 'Galaxy Busting'

So, recently, I was re-watching the Broly anime movie with an eye and ear regarding his supposed Galaxy Busting.

Now, a lot of this comes from the opening of the movie.

However, note this clip.

4:04. In which Paragus outright says that he is, and I quote, "Wreaking havoc all over the South Galaxy."
Odd isn't it? How could one wreak havoc all over a galaxy if it's already been destroyed?

0:47 in. Here, Goku is talking with King Kai and quotes him. "There is a Super Saiyan in the South Galaxy."
King Kai: "He's torn up MOST of the South Galaxy." Most. Not all, but a lot of it.

Finally, they all head to New Planet Vegeta which is in, you guessed it, the South Galaxy. Also, despite all his amazing power, Broly never shows anything close to Galaxy Busting in either of his movie appearances. Casual Planet Busting yes, but not galaxy.

And with that, I can honestly say: Myth Busted.
