Gendo Ikari is a coward who ran away from his responsibilities as a father
and abandons his own son, his last remaining link to his wife, in favor
of delusions of wanting his wife by his side again to the point of
making a clone of her with angel DNA and uses a woman who was jealous of
said wife for satisfaction and uses her daughter for the same once the
mother is offed, he covers this up by acting like a strict and orderly
man leading an organization made for the sole purpose of saving the
world. He pretends to be a magnificent bastard who plays all the people
around him like pawns when in reality he's no more than a lying weasel
who has a way with words so that nobody can argue with him nor
comprehend his true nature, thereby only making his emotionally disabled
son even more confused when he either gives rare moments of
complimenting him or just plain doesn't care nor acknowledge that
Shinji's his own flesh and blood. But what really makes Gendo Ikari a
worse character by emotional standards is when he's finally denied his
chance in End of Evangelion. Now that he's lost everything he had of
ever seeing his wife again, he finally confesses that he ran away from
Shinji because he was afraid of hurting him and he didn't know what to
do without Yui by his side to raise Shinji. The kicker here is that if
Gendo got what he wanted at the very end, HE NEVER WOULD HAVE REALIZED
IT. Gendo is an utterly selfish man who never realizes his mistakes
until the last minute. Being so petty, he doesn't deserve the title of
Magnificent Bastard, much less the right to be the Big Bad of the
series.

Am I the only one getting fed up with this shit?
For those not in the know, the jerk jock can be summed up thusly: A sociopathic bullying high school / college age teenage boy, usually presented as a popular star athlete and foil to the heroes. See the above video.
Now, in a High School setting, having an asshole character is a given. And it is a given that the main character will get even with them, or at least give as good as they get. However, I have noticed a disturbing trend recently of not only making the assholes into utter psychopaths, but also of ensuring that they get off scott free. Take the above video for example. Those of who have seen my review of I Am Number Four know exactly who that guy is: Mark James, the town sociopath. Despite all of the shit he pulls, and despite the fact that the main character HAS SUPERPOWERS, Mark never gets touched and everybody forgives him at the end, John even leaving his girlfriend in Mark's care.
What do you want to bet Mark went right back to being an asshole the moment John was gone?

Asshole bully beats up students to cheering crowd? A-OKAY as far as the school is concerned!
Student stands up for himself and others and beats bully in a basketball game? He's a monster! Detention and community service! AND Uncle Ben telling him he shouldn't stand up for himself! Yeah, the kid coming home with bruises all over his face shouldn't stand up for himself.
*Slow clap.*
Smallville?
Okay, that first Smallville clip? Those three psychopaths threw Clark in a furnace, steal from people, trashed the Kent Family Barn, strung up his parents and tore apart Chloe's wall of weird.
The second clip? A common practice in Smallville: The sociopathic fucks from Smallville High beat up and abduct a random Freshman, take their shirt off, crucify them and leave them out there to die in the cold. Or at least catch pneumonia. The worst part? Everybody in the school knows about this shit but nobody calls the cops on them!
This brings me to my next point: Man of Steel. Now, I can kinda forgive Bully!PeteRoss, since he is actually a human being....and because I still can't figure out if 'dicksplash' is actually a word. I mean...what?????
No, my problem is a later scene, where a trio of jocks bang on the windows of Jonathan's car, force it open, pull kid Clark out, kick around his books, throw him against a fence and challenge him to a fight. Clark kinda just rolls his eyes at them, but Jonathan and other adults see this and.....do all of nothing.
Which means that after the bullies wander off, they'll just find some other kid to beat up on.
The list goes on and on and on.
Now, you may be wondering why I'm not bringing up The Final.
It's because I hate that movie. That's why.
What really makes me scratch my head is this scene.
Boom. Done in less than two minutes, we can now move on with the movie and the audience feels satisfied. Seriously, what happened to scenes like this? Douchebag bully, student stands up for himself, people with souls wanting to just break up the fight, student wants to just call it off, douchebag presses it, student puts him in his place. It's perfect, the lesson is clear, there are no real problems.
Compare and contrast to the above scenes.
The only thing that really compares are these two clips from Chronicle.
Now, Wayne was a dick. Andrew ripping out his teeth could be seen as going a tad far, tripping him with TK and making him hit his head on the floor or embarrising him in front of the school would have been just fine. But, Andrew is not really the most stable guy, so i can understand.
The dad, Richard, did indeed an ass whooping though.

My overall point is, if you're going to make the bullies and jocks into such total bastards, then the consequences should, at the very least, reflect that.
If they are violent thugs, the protagonist should beat them up in return.
If they are the type to play rude pranks on and humiliate people, the protagonist should fire back and humiliate them.
If they attack people in public and kidnap them, the cops should arrest them and their faces should be shown on the news and they will be issued criminal records and jail time.
Hey, it's better than the "Let them get away with it." trend I've been seeing.
